History

After working together for many years on different international projects in the field of higher education, a group of professional education consultants from different regions, with different backgrounds in international education founded the Emerald Global Education Group (EGEG). It first started in the US with an office in San Diego, California and Australia with an office in Sydney, NSW. The Group went on to open, in 2018, with an office in Darmstadt (greater Frankfurt area) to take over the European clients and projects.

Since the Group’s early days, several expert associates have joined the team and the Emerald Group is happy to be able to benefit from such an extensive and international team with comprehensive international networks spanning the globe. Being able to understand different cultures, different education systems and the challenges of internationalization in our global world is one of the most important assets of the Emerald Education Group.

Board of Advisors

Our Board of Advisors is a committee of independent individuals who provide strategic advice to the Emerald Global Education Group (EGEG). Australia

Dr. Roger Alexander - Oceania and China Specialist - Australia

Dr. Alexander has an extensive portfolio and record of success in teaching, domestic and international course development, academic leadership, and business management in both the private and public education sectors. Dr. Alexander joined the International College of Management, Sydney as Executive Dean in 2007 and in January 2012 was appointed Deputy Vice Chancellor. He led the strategic and academic development of the college for over eight years.

As a Dean at Western Sydney University, Dr. Alexander led the development of his faculty and numerous new programs as the university became established as a mature comprehensive research university. He established new research centers and developed research degrees in the faculty and established several successful trans-national collaborative degree programs in SE Asia.

He has served as the Executive Director of the University of New South Wales Foundation Studies Division for over six years. Under his leadership the Division established innovative new programs to meet identified international market need, established collaborative transnational programs in China, New Zealand, Malaysia and Indonesia, and initiated partnerships leading to new collaborative programs in Singapore.

Emeritus Professor Robert Elliot - Oceania, Europe and USA Specialist – Australia

Robert joined the EGEG Group in 2022 as an international education consultant. One or his areas of expertise is establishing and maintaining productive partnerships between higher education institutions in different countries, involving student mobility, faculty mobility, and collaborations in teaching and research. Robert is currently involved in several projects which have a partnership focus, and which utilise professional networks he has built up over several decades working in international education. Other current projects focus on academic leadership development and academic quality assurance.

Robert retired in mid-2020 from his role as Pro Vice-Chancellor (International and Quality) at the University of the Sunshine Coast, in Queensland Australia. He joined USC in 1995 as Foundation Dean of Arts prior to USC enrolling its first students in 1996. From those early years onwards, Robert spearheaded USC's internationalisation - including establishing an English language centre, developing partnerships with international higher education institutions, developing outbound mobility opportunities for USC students and academic staff, and overseeing USC's recruitment of international students. He transitioned to the Pro Vice-Chancellor role in 2005. Robert also had a close, ongoing involvement in academic governance and academic quality assurance at USC, including responsibility for engagement with Australia's higher education regulator - the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Authority.

North America

Dr. Jorge Reinoza - North & South America Specialist - USA

With over 20 years of experience working for both American and Mexican universities, like the University of Tampa, National University, CETYS Universidad (Centro de Enseñanza Técnica y Superior), Vatel International Business School, Jorge is an expert in international consulting. He is the co-founder of an international company that operates within higher education. Jorge holds an MBA from the University of Tampa and specializes in advertising, marketing research, public relations and creative leadership. He is in charge of EGEG’s South American operations.

At the moment, Jorge is mainly focusing on establishing a South America based joint recruitment office in Columbia for two high profile university customers. The goal of the joint venture is to increase student numbers to the United States from the region. Also, he is working on specific marketing projects with different Venezuelan ministries. EGEG has taken on the task of organizing all of the students services including outreach activities, creating a working application process and supporting students in applying for visa documents.

Rhea Willoughby - US and China Specialist - USA

Rhea Willoughby was born and raised in Beijing, China and came to the United States in 1990 to attend graduate school in California.

Since then, she has gained over 20 years experience in business as well as in international education, e.g. as Asian Program Manager at a Californian university. During her career in higher education, Rhea was responsible for developing market research tasks for Chinese higher education institutions and leading a program development survey targeted at U.S. students. Rhea is also an expert in accreditation support, helping universities with national accreditation in the United States. The next goal of the university is to receive the regional WASC accreditation. Throughout her career, Rhea has worked with people from many different cultures and backgrounds within higher education.

Rhea is fluent in both English and Chinese and has a master’s degree in International Management. 

Europe

Sabine Sachs - Western European Specialist - Germany

With over 15 years of experience within higher education, Sabine Sachs has built an extensive international network and has formed countless international collaborations over the years. Sabine is the founder of the Organization for Worldwide Education and dedicates her career to internationalization. Her extensive international network has been her strongest asset in managing international projects for many years. Sabine’s long-standing experience in student recruitment and development of marketing strategies for the European education market is unique and very beneficial to all partners and clients at EGEG.

Sabine is working mainly on projects for universities from Oceania, Canada and the United States of America. Providing her extensive experience from a specifically Western European standpoint, Sabine is a valuable contributor to ongoing Emerald projects. Developing marketing as well as internationalization strategies for various global partners, Sabine has built up a successful business, prestigious portfolio and has become a household name within the higher education community. Sabine is also a regular visitor of the international higher education conferences in the United States NAFSA, EAIE in Europe and APAIE in Asia to further strengthen and expand her expansive international network within higher education. Further, she is an active member of multiple organizations promoting women in businesses and management positions.

Justyna Giezynska - Central and Eastern European Specialist

Justyna Giezynska, a president of the Luminar Foundation and a CEO of Studybility, believes that education improves with internationalization. Justyna helps institutions apply strategic thinking and administrative changes driven by internationalization through seminars, workshops, market research and consultations. She also currently coordinates two multiple-member Erasmus+ Strategic Partnerships related to internationalization of teaching and learning. Following her vision about internationalization of higher education, especially in Central and Eastern Europe, Justyna developed a conference series, Leadership Forum in Higher Education, focusing on activating higher education institutions to strategically plan internationalization while modernizing institutional structures toward quality and effectiveness.

Justyna’s present focus is on intercultural management in international education; working toward increased quality of education through internationalization of education in the B2B and B2C contexts; strategic management of education internationalization at every level; and teaching & learning in an intercultural classroom. Justyna was educated in Cultural Anthropology (BA) at the University of California, Santa Cruz and in Russian and Eastern European Studies (MA) at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington DC. She was a board member of the European Association for International Education (EAIE) and has held various positions in the USA and Europe, including The World Bank.

India

Hersha Pandya – India & UK Specialist

Hersha is a dynamic, personable and focused International Management Consultant with wide experience of global higher education systems, and proven success in developing strategies and campaigns with institutions all over the world to promote education in an international forum.

With over 20 years experience in the sector, Hersha has a wide-ranging portfolio. Her initial experience was as a senior academic in law and head of department at several Universities which led to setting up and managing highly sought after partnerships including joint ventures, research collaborations and setting up regional offices. She then went on to join one of the top international recruiting universities in London as International Director travelling all over the world with particular focus on Africa, India, USA and Europe helping grow international student numbers so that the university was number 1 recruiter in Nigeria, Ghana and India. Subsequent to this, Hersha set up an independent educational consultancy which has led to several placements including being CEO of one of the largest education recruitment agencies in the world where she managed 18 offices, over 250 staff worldwide and placed over 2500 students.

Hersha’s expertise is to assist global educational institutions and organizations with their international provision in country, including organizing highly effective recruitment campaigns, devising international strategy, setting up and managing a network of agents, organizing international high school tours, or providing representation at events, exhibitions and meetings thereby saving the institutions considerable costs.

Founded in 1936, Vancouver Island University (VIU) is a public university with currently about 16.000 students and more than 120 study programs in various fields.

National University, San Diego, United States

Founded in 1971, National University is one of the largest private, non-profit institutions of higher education in California.

National University has continuously trusted EGEG with unique marketing strategies solutions as well as with online marketing projects, contract development and cooperation management – resulting in a 180% increase of international students from the German Market in student mobility. Among further recruitment efforts in Europe, and due to the success of student recruitment in Germany, National University decided to also exclusively dedicate the French market the EGEG’s responsibilities.

University of North Carolina, Wilmington, United States

Founded in 1947, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW) is a public university within the North Carolina University network with currently over 16,000 undergraduate, graduate and PH.D. students.

For years, the University of North Carolina at Wilmington has entrusted EGEG with the expansion into the German market. In less than 4 EGEG has more than doubled cooperation agreements between UNCW and German higher education institutions after taking over cooperation development, contract management as well as online marketing in the German sector. Organizing conferences as well as meetings with higher education officials, EGEG has been a reliable partner supporting the internationalization of the North Carolinian campus.     Education consultant – Canada/India

    We are looking for a higher education expert who is an experienced consultant or has worked in the higher education sector for at least 8 years prior.

    As an associate with the Emerald Global Education group, your responsibilities will lie mainly with our Canadian customers. Your task will be to help with different projects such as the development of an Indian recruitment office with a fulltime staff, including marketing planning, budgeting, hiring responsibilities etc.

    Marketing and Social Media Internship – Darmstadt, Germany

    We are looking for a marketing intern who has already earned some experience in both online marketing and social media strategies. For an international customer, we are seeking support for the EGEG marketing team, located in Darmstadt, Germany. Your task will mainly focus on online marketing strategies as well as social media efforts to support recruiting efforts aimed at European students for a United States-based university. Fluent English skills and experience in marketing are required.
